These London Plane trees, found lining the Campanile Esplanade on the UC Berkeley campus, appear as if they have been uprooted and turned upside down.   

A sea urchin is essentially a walking mouth with spines.

It's not easy being green.  Unless you're a chameleon...

Did you know that jellyfish don't have a central nervous system?  Instead, they have a "nerve net" that spans their epidermis and responds to touch stimuli.  

If I only had a brain...

Had you ever wondered what it would be like inside the belly of a T-Rex?  

I hadn't either.  

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Venus and Jupiter converging in the sky near a crescent moon!

 

Although I have neglected my picture taking and blogging lately, I figured I should post a picture - any picture - to prevent the tofurkey from coming up first in the blog.  

Tofurkey is a tofu-based, non-meat product that strikingly resembles turkey, as evidenced by these pictures.

This is a picture of Alamere Falls at Point Reyes.  It is smaller than Niagra Falls and has a less interesting name than Pissing Mare Falls.

This apple pie was so good I gave it an award.  So I guess it's an award-winning apple pie.

Although we typically associate jack-0'-lanterns with carved pumpkins at Halloween, there is a much longer tradition of carving vegetable lanterns in Ireland and Britain.  And, instead of using pumpkins, they carved lanterns from root vegetables such as turnips.  So if you're in the mood to carve a lantern and a pumpkin just doesn't turn up, try a turnip.

My experiment in the lab today went terribly wrong.

I'm not an expert in persimmon anatomy, but it appears we are looking at this one's rear end.

Hiking, American Style

The Golden Gate Bridge is the most photographed bridge in the world.  As if we needed another, here is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Global Peace Foundation wants to destroy Alcatraz.  Huh.  That doesn't seem very peaceful.

This is the Bay Bridge.  Can you believe that some dimwit actually confused this with the Golden Gate Bridge?  That's just absurd.

These "Sea Lebrities" arrived at Pier 39 shortly after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.  When they're not lounging around on the docks, they're ... um ... multiplying.  Sounds like a good life.  

Did you know that, along with the prestige of serving as a Blue Angels pilot, the job offers a 90% survival rate?  

I took this picture from Angel Island yesterday.  Then Angel Island caught on fire.  Those facts have nothing to do with each other.

I missed the blog again yesterday.  Oops.  

Here is a picture of Naval cadets riding a ferry.  From the looks of it, this might be their first ferry ride.
