Bicycle double parking.  I suppose we'll be seeing more of this as gas prices rise.

We all know that optimists view the glass as half full, but what would they have to say about an empty glass?  Touché.

This is the Class of 1900 arch on the UC Berkeley campus.  I'm not quite sure of its purpose.  Is it the doorway to learning?  Or the doorway to the staircase to discovery?  Or perhaps it's just the doorway to the staircase to get across campus...

This is a carnivorous plant.  Got meat?

South Hall is the oldest building on the UC Berkeley campus.  The hall was built on granite.  Granite emits radiation.  Radiation is a sign of apparitions.  Therefore, South Hall is haunted.

The caption generator needs a rest.  You can look at this pretty flower in the meantime.

The dome is the "king of all roofs."

Did you know that "Bucky Balls" (C60 molecules) were named after the architect R. Buckminster Fuller?  Bucky (interesting name, by the way) designed the geodesic dome, which turned out to resemble its molecular C60 counterpart.  I think it would have been a better story if he had discovered C60 molecules, and then designed molecule-inspired domes.  But, then again, that would change the course of history...

I'm not quite sure what the dollops of cement are supposed to be, but it looks like this kid is having a blast.

I wonder if I can increase the popularity of my blog by periodically posting ridiculously cute pictures of Ping.

Or perhaps this is some form of pug exploitation...

Thanks to all my fans for submitting captions.  The winners today are:

Welcome to the annual meter maids convention.
(from Jan)

An interesting question...How many meters are there per square foot?
(from Mike)

Thank you, generous blog viewers.  I do not know who you are (wink, wink), but I  am so glad that you are enjoying my blog.

Wouldn't it suck if your alien spaceship finally reached a new planet only to get stuck in a bush?

I realized I hadn't taken a picture of the inside of my closet.

Okay, I know I'll be ribbed for this one...

"Can I pet it?"

"Good luck, son.  I know you'll fit right in at Berkeley."

I didn't know Cookie Monster and Elmo had a son.

Why, that's a rather large...spider!  Of course, Chuck Norris eats these for breakfast.

So, I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth last night and was greeted by this rather large spider rappelling gracefully from the ceiling.  If I had taken one more step, I would have had a spider in my face.  I paused for a moment to consider my options:

a. Shriek, slam the bathroom door, and never go back in there.
No.  Neglecting oral hygiene is never the answer.
b. Swat at the spider with reckless abandon.
And needlessly kill one of Mother Earth's beautiful creatures?
c. Run and get my camera.  Take a picture for the blog, then proceed with b.
Right-o!

Captions First!

Dad has suggested using a caption list to inspire my photography for the week.  Frankly, I think it's a splendid idea.

Here are some captions from which I may choose:

-Well, you don't see that everyday!
-A scene that inspires poetry and song
-Yet further evidence that global warming is rampant
-Why, that's a rather large ____!

As you can see, I need a few more captions.  I'm enlisting the help of my fan base (yeah, all nine of you!) to suggest captions.  If I choose yours, well, there won't be a prize, but you'll be able to claim that you had some part (albeit minor) in making one of the least popular blogs on the Web!
Today's deep thought:

Tomatoes, while seemingly innocuous, cause a lot of strife in our society.  Contention over pronunciation of the word "tomato" is just one example of how they are tearing us English speakers apart.  And then there's that whole fruit vs. vegetable identity crisis.

Of course, if people were eating me all the time, I'd probably try to mess with their heads too...

This is the Downtown Berkeley Post Office.  I have found it to be a lot more beautiful than it is functional.

Some people spend their Friday evenings playing sports out on the lawn.  Others hide in the shadows taking pictures of them.  How creepy!

I've been neglecting my picture taking responsibilities lately, so here's one I took of Ping a couple of months ago.

These flowers live in the front yard of the home I am currently inhabiting.  I have composed this limerick about them:

There once were some flowers so pretty
They inspired this nice little ditty,
I don't know their name,
But it's just the same,
They cheer me up when I feel...bad.
